Introduction This my most northern Permanent. It goes up Emigration Canyon (a classic Salt Lake hill climb, also called the Mormon Trail). This where Brigham Young, in 1847 upon first arriving down into the valley in a wagon, declared “This is the Right Place. Drive on.” Our route then proceeds over Big Mountain Pass, around East Canyon Reservoir to Henefer for the first control. It then proceeds south on rural roads past Coalville, Wanship and to Kamas. It then turns west to Park City (home of the 2002 Winter Olympics), finally proceeding down Parley’s Canyon via I-80 for 11.6 miles where it gains Foothill Dr.
Seasonal Warning! Emigration Canyon is seasonally closed in the winter, so this route cannot be ridden year around.
On the inaugural ride of the revised route, a Garmin eTrex GPS showed a gain of 7910 ft. (This was on very unseasonable nice, clear Nov. 2nd day with a balmy temperature range of 45-65F).
Start & Finish Point Smith’s grocery store at 876 E 800 S in Salt Lake City.
