West Desert Dash — Ride with GPS Link — Permanent #521

200 km (124.3 miles) with 3,880 feet of cumulative elevation gain. The lowest elevation of the ride is 4,513 feet near the end of the ride and the highest point is 6,583 feet in Eureka. Typical season is from March to November.

Introduction This 200K loop starts and ends in Saratoga Springs, Utah, which is about 20 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
It travels in a counter-clock-wise direction along the Pony Express Route in the west Utah desert (i.e. Great Basin), passing through Vernon and then climbs up to the mining town of Eureka (gold & silver was/is mined there), and then cruises along the west side of Utah Lake. This is a local club century ride — except I extended the loop on the north end to get the mileage up to 200K. This is very remote ride with resupply points which are about 40-45 miles a part — travel with a self sufficient attitude.

Please note that this is exactly the route as the 200 km brevet called Backroads of the Great Basin 200.

Start Point Take exit 279 (Lehi) off I-15 & go west onto SR-73/Lehi Main St 4.3 miles to the junction of Redwood Rd/SR-68 & SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.

Cruising down the canyon east of Eureka.
